Thunder Chase
Permanent Outdoor Stunt & Spectacle Show · Hainan, China · 2018–2019
Thunder Chase is the largest outdoor stunt and spectacle show in China — a purpose-built 3,000-seat amphitheatre combining FMX, drift cars, parkour, high falls, zipline, and pyrotechnics in a 25-minute permanent show. The production featured three giant screens and a multi-camera live broadcast system delivering 180-degree coverage from any seat in the house. I was on site in Hainan for nine months as Technical Manager for the full integration and production phase.
The venue was still under construction for most of the engagement. Constant reprioritization of integration work, flexible crew allocation, and aggressive advance planning were the only tools available to protect the technical delivery date. Operating in a cross-cultural environment with fundamentally different communication norms, safety standards, and work practices required building trust and functional workflows with local teams before anything else could move.
All AV and broadcast systems were commissioned on time for show opening. The venue has been in continuous operation since 2019.
